Speaker falls ill on the day

On 17 June 2015, we pressed our 18 year-old Rotary Youth Exchange Student Mihai into his first Rotary Service as an adult – he was given the task of welcoming the visitors to our Club. As you can see above, he seemed to fall naturally into the role of being a Rotarian!

Our speaker for the evening, Alexis Nielson of the Beanstalk Charity, had fallen ill during the day and had had to leave work asking a colleague to let us know. With such a short lead time, we were given the task of entertaining ourselves, and that we managed to do with ease.

June, our incoming Club Treasurer, told the story about the epic day collecting the District Minibus for the Ukraine, travelling to Nottingham and back, and then taking the vehicle to Essex fully loaded with aid for the Revival Centre in Chernihiv.

Beanstalk is a charity that works with volunteers and primary schools, providing reading support for those students that are in need. We all wish Alexis a speedy recovery and look forward to hearing her talk on a future occasion.
