On 29 January, the Rotary Club of Northwick Park was honoured to host the current Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Nana Asante who was accompanied by the mayoress, Ms Awula Serwah.
Cllr Asante told us about her early life in Tel Aviv, where her father was a diplomat; then Switzerland followed by study at the University of Ghana. Cllr Asante then relocated to the UK and found herself in politics from 2002.
Cllr Asante gave us a fascinating insight into local politics within a Local Authority and the importance of politicians always remembering that they are there for the electorate. Cllr Asante shared the continuing changes that are occurring in Harrow and that she is now a member of the Independent Labour Party.
Cllr Asante responded to a numbers of questions from club members, based on the general role of the mayor and on local Harrow issues. The numbers of questions was clearly indicative of how refreshing and thought provoking the club found Cllr Asante’s talk.
