Harrow Mayor

Visit of the Mayor of Harrow – 19 November

On 19 November, we were honoured to welcome Councillor Anjana Patel, recently sworn in as the new Mayor of Harrow at the Council’s Annual Meeting on 15 May. She is the 73rd Mayor of the borough and notably the UK’s first British Tanzanian‑Indian born woman to hold this distinguished office.

Harrow will celebrate its 60th anniversary as a London borough in 2024, and Mayor Patel will lead the borough’s jubilee events. She has chosen to support two charities during her mayoral year: VIA, which helps individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependency, and the Samaritans, both causes that resonate strongly with Rotary’s areas of focus and service to the community.

Mayor Patel has lived in Harrow since 2000 and was first elected to the Council in 2002. She currently represents Belmont Ward and has previously served in cabinet roles covering Community and Culture, Schools and Children’s Development, and Environment and Community Safety.

This was the Mayor’s first visit to a Rotary club since taking office, and we were delighted by her engaging presentation. In appreciation, the club made a contribution to her office in support of her chosen charities.
