England’s First Aid Charity – St John Ambulance
On 10th September, we were joined by Ash Thaiman, a volunteer from http://St John Ambulance who gave us an insight into the amazing work the charity does.
St John Ambulance believes everyone should know what to do in a health emergency. Their mission is simple: put first aid skills into the hands of as many people as possible.
What They Do
-
Teach first aid to people of all ages – from children to adults
-
Offer free online advice and resources so anyone can learn the basics
-
Run professional training courses in first aid, mental health, and safety (the money raised goes straight back into supporting their charity work)
-
Provide first aid cover at events, with trained volunteers and ambulances on standby
St John Ambulance is a charity, so they rely on donations and fundraising to train volunteers and save lives. You can find out more on their website if you’d like to support them.
A Long History of Helping.
The organisation has roots going back to the 11th century, when the first Knights of St John cared for sick pilgrims in Jerusalem. Today, St John Ambulance has been active in England for over 140 years, and you’ll still see their volunteers at major events across the country.
