Rotary International has had a long history  with controlling Mosquitos and with Mosquito Nets. This particular project began however in the late 1990s when Rotarians in London formed a partnership with some researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
The Researchers were undertaking " double-blind" studies with treated bed nets to determine the efficacy of the treatment chemicals and also to demonstrate the benefits to the villagers. The cost of the trials were beyond the resources of many Rotary Clubs, so the Clubs in London bought shares in the trials.
The studies have been completed now, but the need for the bed nets continues and the Rotarians in the Club have continued to support the project by buying 4 - 8 £50 shares each year.
Our current fundraising scheme is based on the fines imposed by the Club's Sergeant at Arms on members for minor misdemeanours in Club meetings, for example forgetting the name of the Club President! The  fines  are  very  small  in  value  and  a  element of baiting the Sergeant at Arms is expected.
