The Rotary Club of
Northwick Park is proud to support a Pensioner through the
Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Thousands of Gurkha soldiers fought in Gurkha Regiments during
the Second World War. At the end of the war, many were demobbed
without having completed the 15 years' service necessary to
qualify for a Service Pension.
Many of these soldiers would be living their days out in abject
poverty were it not for the Gurkha Welfare Trust, an charity
that provides a Welfare Pension.
The members of the Rotary Club of Northwick Park hold an annual
dinner at a local Nepalese Restaurant, and pay a small amount on
top of their bill to cover the pension of £240 per year.
(The pension was raised from £144 at the same time as the
UK Government raised the Service Pension of ex-Gurkhas). Our
Gurkha Welfare Pensioner is pictured on the right.
