THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

The Rotary Foundation is a charitable fund operated in the United States, and has a specific fund operated within the United Kingdom to take advantage of UK Tax concessions for Charitable Giving in the UK.

THE MAIN PROGRAMMES SUPPORTED

The fund supports three main programmes

1.The Ambassadorial Scholarship programme provides a generous bursary to Post Graduate Scholars to study their subject overseas - normally for a 12 month period.

2. Vocational Training Teams programme provides young professionals with an intensive opportunity to meet people in their discipline in another country over a period of a month as part of a small team of visitors

3. The Humanitarian Grants programme provides access to District Grant funds and Global Grant funds for projects at home and overseas provided that the project complies with the rigorous rules of the programme.

4. The "Thanks for Life" programme provides a fundraising response to the Bill and Melinda Gates Challenge Grants, and the Polio Plus Partners provides funds to the support and back-room teams behind Rotary's Programme of eradicating Poliomyelitis. These teams are responsible for laboratory monitoring, vaccination day planning, education, and case spotting. These services are needed to achieve our Poliomyelitis objective below.

WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S OBJECTIVE?

The object of the Rotary Foundation in the words of Arch Klumpf - the founder in 1916 - is " To do good in the world" . Rotarians through their Foundation aim to provide an entitlement to Health, Happiness, and greater Humanity to everyone in our world. To illustrate the Foundation's commitment to this objective, you should be aware that Rotarians around the world are committed to eradicating Polio by Rotary International's Birthday on 23rd February 2008.
