Global Scholar From Texas

On Wednesday 1 May our speaker was Samantha Ellen Webb, a Global Scholar from Houston in Texas and hosted by the Rotary Club of St. Marylebone. Being a good friend of “our own” Global scholar Emily Gordon, we already had the pleasure of her company at last year’s District Conference and at one of our Club meetings.

Samantha is reading Conflict Resolution at the LondonSchool of Economics & Political Science (LSE)and was pleased to have an evening out because she had just finished her last exam. It was a pity that none of our cables would fit her laptop, which meant that we did not have the opportunity to view her pictorial presentation. However, she made up for this by a delightful and fluent description of her family, her experience in this country and her in meeting so many fellow scholars from a variety of countries.

Samantha is not going home when she has completed her studies and dissertation because she has been snapped up by BP who have offered her employment on very attractive terms. When asked whether she had plans to remain involved with Rotary International she answered most definitely but she would first try to join a Rotaract Club. She is so grateful for the opportunities that Rotary had given her that she also plans to devote time to mentoring the new Global Scholars expected to arrive in good time before the start of the first semester.
