District Governor Trevor Delights the Club

Our speaker on Wednesday 12 October 2011 was our District Governor Trevor Johnson. Trevor described how his jobs starts in the January Assembly at San Diego, where he met the incoming Rotary International President Kalyan and Binolta Bannerjee for the first time. He then amplified on the theme for the year – “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”, and how Kalyan has asked all clubs to look to the Family, to Continuity and to the Change that Rotary Clubs must engage if they are to stay attractive to new members. Finally, Trevor took us through the Six Areas of Focus that Rotary International has for its projects:

  1. Water & Sanitation
  2. Maternal and Child Health
  3. Literacy, Numeracy and Basic Education
  4. Peace and Conflict Resolution
  5. Disease Prevention and Treatment
  6. Economic and Community Development

Under item 5, Trevor also described our progress on the eradication of Polio, describing how Rotary was “This Close” (one inch) to achieving the goal.

It was then time for questions and there were plenty!  Covering everything from the order of his visits to public relations with the media and how District Governors come to office in other countries. He then presented President Pushpinder with the District Governor’s Banner for the year.

An inspiring talk – well done Trevor! And also inspiring was Trevor’s wife, Rotarian Christine from the Rotary Club of Roding, who had come from Liverpool to attend the meeting!
